This Week in Focus On Performance

I’ll be presenting two sessions this week in Austin, Tx at the inaugural edition of Focus On Performance. I’m doing a session at 1:00pm Wednesday “The Secret to Better Performance? Less Training” and a BYOL session at on Friday “You Already Know How to Build mLearning (You Just Don’t Know It)

The Secret to Better Performance? LESS Training!

FocusOn Learning 2016

Business leaders often request training when there are better options available. Even when they do need “courses,” it’s often only to check off a box. In these situations, you have a responsibility to validate that creating a course is the most effective and efficient approach. Even when courses are appropriate, they’re rarely enough on their own to drive the change organizations need.

In this session, you will learn how to shift from the traditional course delivery approach to a consultant’s mindset focusing on the performance needs of your organization. You’ll learn valuable strategies and effective questions you can ask to uncover the most efficient and effective solutions, whether they are courses, social and collaboration tools, performance support, or other lower-tech alternatives.

In this session, you will learn:

  • About factors that impact performance, including which ones training can and can’t address
  • About questions that you should ask and answer before beginning any learning program
  •  How to guide stakeholders to more efficient options

You Already Know How to Build mLearning (You Just Don’t Know It)

Mobile learning is rapidly becoming a must-have for organizations big and small. For most designers, getting started is a huge hurdle they have yet to overcome. Considering all the new technology, platforms, authoring tools, and skills required to make it all work can paralyze even the best learning pros.

In this session, you’ll learn how quick and easy it can be to build mobile learning with skills and tools that you already have. If you have PowerPoint (yes, PowerPoint), you have everything you need to create visually appealing, interactive, and dynamic mobile learning solutions. Additionally, you will learn how to create mobile-friendly videos and interactive eBooks.

In this session, you will learn:

  • About several mobile-friendly learning content types that can be easily authored from PowerPoint
  • How to quickly and easily create mobile-friendly videos
  • How to create interactive eBooks
  • About easy-to-use templates to jump-start your mobile learning projects

  1. Hi Mike,

Thanks for sharing on the Focus on Learning conference and your sessions. The link to the workshop files reveal files in ‘box’… I’m interested in the files (since you’re already sharing them) but don’t have a box account, besides it seems there is even a file not found error somewhere or is it because I’m not logged in with an account?
